As a result of a commission of inquiry into the organisation of Scottish Junior football, the summer of 1968 saw an extensive rearrangement of the administration of the grade. The Scottish Junior Football Association remained in being and in charge of the national scene, subject as always to SFA supremacy. The complex and overlapping patterns of county associations, area associations, various leagues and a multiplicity of cup and shield competitions that grew independently of each other in the early years of the century was to be replaced by an ordered and logical chain of command based on large geographical areas - Junior football was to be ‘regionalised’. The league continued a single division, but there was a number of season where a two section set-up was run. In 1972-73 and 1986-87, the league was split into regional divisions - West and East, while in seasons 1978-1980, 1987-1989 and 1990-91, first and second Divisions, with promotion and relegation, were in use. By and large, Fife was untouched by the regionalization of 1968, and the main competitions all continued as before. But in 2002, the league was merged with the East and Tayside Regions to for the new East Region, and the Fife League became a feeder league.
